A lot of ink has been spilled covering the lives of history's most influential figures, but how much of the forest is lost for the trees? In Charles River Editors' British Legends series, listeners can get caught up to speed on the lives of Great Britain's most important men and women in the time it takes to finish a commute, while learning interesting facts long forgotten or never known. Sir Winston Churchill is often cited as Britain's greatest prime minister for leading the United Kingdom against Hitler's Nazi war machine during World War II, and indeed he was the idol of the one person who many think might have surpassed him: Margaret Thatcher. Thatcher not only became Britain's first female prime minister; she also became its longest serving prime minister. The political precedents Thatcher set as a woman would be enough of a legacy in their own right, but Thatcher effectively wielded her power in a way that made a lasting contribution to both geopolitics and the perception of female politicians in general. Thatcher is widely credited, along with Ronald Reagan, as one of the principal Cold Warriors who brought about the demise of the Soviet Union, whose leaders gave her the famous nickname "Iron Lady". And, of course, Thatcher was recently in the spotlight again with the release of the critically acclaimed movie The Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep. With the success of that movie, Thatcher has undergone a cultural revival and reiconization in many quarters for her political stances and political achievements. At the same time, however, the role she played as a woman is now often overlooked out of the expedience of political correctness, and it is considered uncivil to analyze Thatcher's political rise through the prism of sex. In fact at times the former prime minister claimed to understand an issue better due to her sex and sometimes used her sex more subliminally. British Legends: The Life and Legacy of Margaret 1. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! UK garage is a sub-genre of electronic dance music originating from the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s. In some sense UK garage is a descendant of British house music, but takes its name from the practice of sped-up US garage playback from whence the near-synonymous term Speed garage is derived. UK garage usually features a distinctive syncopated 4-4 percussive rhythm with 'shuffling' hi-hats and beat-skipping kick drums. Garage tracks also commonly feature 'chopped up' and time-shifted or pitch-shifted vocal samples complementing the underlying rhythmic structure. UK garage is often associated with the hardcore continuum. UK garage was largely subsumed into other styles of music and production in the mid-2000s, notably within hip-hop and urban music. It also spawned multiple off-shoots including Grime, Dubstep and Bassline.

National Express East Coast was a train operating company in the United Kingdom, running high speed passenger services on the East Coast Main Line between London and Scotland, as part of the East Coast passenger franchise. Under the privatised railway system in Great Britain, the franchise was operated by NXEC Trains Limited, a subsidiary of National Express Group, who operated the franchise in return for payments being made to the Department for Transport. National Express were awarded the right to operate the franchise in 2007 after the previous operator, Great North Eastern Railway (GNER), were forced to give up the franchise by the government early in 2006, after financial difficulties. NXEC in-turn lost its franchise on 14 November 2009. On 1 July 2009, after unsuccessfully attempting to re-negotiate the franchise terms, the National Express Group announced it would not provide further financial support to ensure can continue operations for the full term of the franchise.
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Road speed limit enforcement in the United Kingdom is the action taken by appropriately empowered authorities to check that road vehicles are complying with the UK speed limit in force on roads and highways. Methods used include roadside speed traps set up and operated by the police and automated roadside speed camera systems which may incorporate the use of an automatic number plate recognition system. Traditionally the police would have used stopwatches to measure the time taken for a vehicle to cover a known distance, but latterly they have speed guns and automated in-vehicle systems at their disposal.
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A road speed limit is the maximum speed allowed by law for road vehicles. Speed limits are commonly set and enforced by the legislative bodies of nations or provincial governments. The first maximum speed limit was the 10 mph (16 km/h) limit introduced in the United Kingdom in 1861. The Isle of Man and Germany, where over 50% of the autobahn system remains free from speed limits, are the only places in the world that do not have a general speed limit. Currently, the highest posted speed limit in the world is 140 kilometres per hour (87 mph) on Polish motorways, although a variable speed limit up to 160 kilometres per hour (99 mph) was permitted experimentally on a stretch of Austrian motorway in June 2006.
