High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Pirates of the Caribbean is a dark ride at the Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris theme parks. This was the last attraction in which Walt Disney himself participated in designing, it opened three months after his death. It is located within the New Orleans Square portion of Disneyland, its facade evoking antebellum New Orleans, topped by a 31-star United States flag (which would indicate the 1850s). An overhead sign at the boat dock names it for the famous pirate Jean Lafitte (although his name is misspelled Laffite), who fought alongside the U.S. Army at the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812.

British Ensign

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A British ensign in British maritime law and custom, is the identifying flag flown to designate a British ship, either military or civilian. Such flags display the United Kingdom Union Flag in the canton (the upper corner next the staff), with either a red, white or blue field, dependant on whether the vessel is civilian, naval, or in a special category. These are known as the red, white, and blue ensigns respectively. Outside the nautical sphere, ensigns are used to designate many other military units, government departments and administrative divisions. These flags are modelled on the red, white, and blue naval ensigns, but may use different colours for the field, and be "defaced" by the addition of a badge or symbol, for example the sky blue with concentric red, white and blue circles of the Royal Air Force ensign. Today's white ensign, as used by Royal Navy ships, incorporates the St George's Cross (St George's Ensign). Defaced white ensigns include that of the British Antarctic Territory and that formerly used by the Royal Yacht Club (now the Royal Yacht Squadron).

The national colours of the United Kingdom are usually identified as the combination of red, white and blue in that order. These colours are the same as in the flag of the United Kingdom. The colours of the flag are in turn taken from the flags of England (white and red) and of Scotland (blue and white), which have been combined to form the union flag, to this was later added a red saltire for Ireland, this St Patrick's Cross is sometimes used for all-Ireland sporting teams but in the Union Flag it now only represents Northern Ireland.[ In maps of the 19th and 20th centuries, the territories of the British Empire were usually coloured red or pink. Historically, the British Armed Forces fought in red, a traditional colour that remains to this day in formal and ceremonial uniforms. Militarily, and in other contexts, the single chief colour associated with the UK is therefore red, such as in the famous British Army red coats.

Admiral Thomas Cochrane, 10th Earl of Dundonald, Marquess do Maranhão, GCB, ODM (Chile) (14 December 1775 31 October 1860), styled Lord Cochrane between 1778 and 1831, was a senior British naval flag officer and radical politician. He was a daring and successful captain of the Napoleonic Wars, leading the French to nickname him ''Le Loup des Mers'' (''The Sea Wolf'' or ''The Wolf of the Seas''). He was dismissed from the Royal Navy in 1814, following a conviction for fraud on the Stock Exchange and he then served in the rebel navies of Chile, Brazil and Greece during their respective wars of independence. In 1832, he was reinstated in the Royal Navy with the rank of Rear Admiral of the Blue. After being promoted several times following his reinstatement, he died in 1860 with the rank of Admiral of the Red, and the honorary title of Rear-Admiral of the United Kingdom. His life and exploits served as inspiration for the naval fiction of nineteenth and twentieth-century novelists, particularly C. S. Forester''s Horatio Hornblower and Patrick O''Brian''s Jack Aubrey.
